Your Buying Guide to Hair Dryers

Your hair is one of the things about you that other people first notice.  If you have beautifully set and healthy main, they would assume that you are as orderly as you are in person.  However, if you have unkempt hair, they would assume that you don't care about how things are.

And so, we would be discussing the different types of hair dryers, what other buyers are saying, what to look out for as well as some of the most popular brands.

Types of Hair Dryers

Ceramic Hair Dryers

Ceramic hair dryers emit gentler heat as the heating elements are coated with, what else, but ceramic. So, the heat that they give out is not as excessive and damaging to the hair.

Ceramic also has good conduction properties so that the heat is more evenly spread out which prevents a certain spot from overheating. In other words, there is less chance of a burn.

Infrared Hair Dryers

Infrared hair dryers can penetrate from within so that they can quicken the drying time. The heat is infused deep inside the hair cuticle so that the drying process is not only happening on the surface of the strands.

Infrared heat is also known for its consistent temperature and even heat distribution. This is why it makes a suitable component for a hair dryer.

Like ceramic hair dryers, they are suitable for normal to fine hair.

Ionic Hair Dryers

With ceramic hair dryers, many manufacturers have also added another component to these appliances to make them ionic models. Basically, ionic hair dryers are shooting out negative ions to break down the water molecules to speed up the drying time of your hair.

Apart from this function, the ionic hair dryers can also help to close off your hair cuticles to trap moisture. That is why this type of hair dryers are recommended for people with dry and frizzy hair. They are suppose to give you shiny, bouncy and smooth hair to overcome the frizz look.

Tourmaline Hair Dryers

Generally, tourmaline hair dryers are more costly than the rest but you can look at them as an upgrade from their ionic counterparts.

What this means is that they have more negative ions to discharge to increase the shine of your hair and they can reduce the drying time to a considerably shorter duration. Some tests have shown that they can reduce drying time to nearly half of that of ionic hair dryers.

Hence, people with frizzy and damaged hair could possibly benefit from these hair dryers. So do people with thick hair that takes forever to dry.

Titanic Hair Dryers

Titanium has also been integrated into hair dryers these days to give a lightweight option to users. Some manufacturers have claimed that they are 40% lighter compared to the regular ceramic hair dryers.

Titanium also gives off a consistent high temperature which penetrates your hair to dry it off quickly. With a quick dry time, there is a lower risk of your hair being over-exposed to the heat and causing damage.

The advantage of titanium hair dryers is that they are light enough for you to hold one while styling without tiring out your arm. And if you have thick hair that takes a long time to dry, a lightweight hair dryer may also be a more ideal model.

What Other Buyers Are Saying

Buying a hair dryer is an investment as it should last for a long time.  It should allow you to style your hair in an acceptable amount of time and it shouldn't be a hassle to use it.

Some of the customer feedback that a popular hair dryer on Amazon UK has received are:

Brilliant hair dryer! I had my old babyliss for 16 years so I hope this one is as long lasting. I don’t find the heat to cold like some I think it is perfect for not burning your hair and drying it efficiently. I have thick long hair just below my shoulder blades and it takes me 10 minutes to dry my hair sectioned. It has a long lead on it which is great. I would recommend this product.

Great hair dryer especially for the low price and for the good quality! Smooth and easy to use too, slightly heavy but nothing that even a child can easily carry around. It feels like a quality product and gives a great result on my hair which can be prone to frizz!

Very effective hairdryer. I loved it at first even though it was heavy. It has three speed options and 3 heat options. I only ever used the medium or cool heat option but it dried my hair really quickly. However, after only 3 months the nozzle kept repeatedly falling off as in other customers reviews. When I looked at it I could see that it has partly melted around the edges meaning that the dryer must be overheating in some way. It's now un-useable. Unusually Amazon customer services were very unhelpful and tried to fob me off with a replacement, then told me it was not possible to give me a refund despite the fact that the item was faulty. Finally agreed to give me a refund, I would not recommend buying this product as it clearly has an overheating fault. Plus the service provided by Amazon when trying to return today was pretty appalling!

What to Look Out for

When buying a hair dryer, choose the one that fits your needs and ask your hairdresser for recommendations.  Look at how it's going to style your hair and check the heating options.  Also check for warranty as you need to know where to bring it in case it gets broken.
